May Faculty Senate Chair Blog

Dear All,

I hope the ends of the semester is going smoothly and you will be able to take part in the upcoming celebration of student graduations on our campuses. A couple of quick updates and reminders from the Senate chair:

1: In response to constituent concerns, WSU Human Resources has revised their website that provides information on the process for review of Administrators reporting to the Office of the President. I would like to especially thank Teresa Elliot-Cheslek, Jaide Williams and the rest of the HRS team for their efforts to address faculty concerns.

2: A reminder that May 13th will serve as an opportunity for system-wide faculty to connect with administration. Questions for the President, Provost and WSU executive leaders for the upcoming forum should be submitted online. Note that questions may be submitted anonymously, but the duration of the forum is limited, and the Senate Leadership team will be selecting the most appropriate questions to bring forward, per the senate motion passed on April 4, 2024.

3: Finally, please consider participating in the WSU Presidential Search – Faculty Focus Group Session on Wednesday, May 8th from 9:00am – 10:00am. Community members who cannot attend one of the virtual meetings can submit written feedback to Isaacson, Miller via an online survey. You may add this focus group session directly to your Outlook calendar here.

Thanks for all you do for WSU,

Best wishes,

Eric Shelden, Ph.D.

  1. This is a valid question and has been raised by others. However, given the magnitude of recent changes at WSU and the facts that President Schulz will continue to be our president for the coming academic year as well as oversee the current budget reallocation process, I and the other executive committee members think that this meeting is appropriate and timely. We also note that this meeting is being held in response to a recommendation passed by a majority vote of the full senate, on April 4. We appreciate the willingness of the President and Executive Vice presidents to be responsive to this recommendation, and to address faculty questions and concerns at this point in WSU’s history. I hope it will be a positive and useful meeting.

    Cheers,
    Eric Shelden
