Faculty Senate Minutes
Regular Meeting
October 06, 2016

The Faculty Senate was called to order by A.G. Rud, Chair on Thursday October 6, 2016, in FSHN T101 at 3:30 p.m. thirty-six (36) members were present with sixteen (16) absent and seven (7) nonvoting members present.

Minutes of September 22, 2016 meeting were approved as circulated.

      1. I attended an informational meeting on the new Enterprise system. We will invite Matt Skinner to come speak at Senate regarding this new system.
      2. I attended an informational meeting on the proposed partnership between WSU and INTO.org, a company dedicated to finding qualified foreign undergraduate students.

    6. Recommendation from the Faculty Affairs Committee to approve changes to the Faculty Manual regarding II E. Faculty Responsibility Related to Student Academic Integrity ( Exhibit P P1) – B. Walker
      1. Discussion: The topics of concern arose on what form of evidence needed to be provided to the student, the appeal process and the need for timelines on reporting and/ or responding. Concerns were brought forth on the need to have a systemized process wherein issues could be
        dealt with on a local level to avoid a potential influx of grade appeals and the need for specific timeline language. Additional comments advised that Rules 104 and 105 could help address these concerns. It was noted that the Washington code doesn’t have a timeline, therefore the Faculty Manual revision cannot either.
  6. Constituents’ Concerns.
    1. A concern was raised regarding the results from the employee satisfaction survey and it was suggested the Theresa Elliot-Cheslek be invited to come speak to the Senate.
    2. A concern was raised regarding the overall financial picture of the university and it was suggested that someone from administration come to provide a concise financial snapshot on budget issues.
    3. A concern was brought forward regarding extension faculty having two tracks for tenure and promotion and that the language is confusing. It was also noted that minorities and women have a disparity in pay.
      1. Faculty Senate officers will follow up on this.
