Syllabus Requirements
All course proposals must include
- a public syllabus URL. Failure to provide a public syllabus URL may delay senate review.

After the Canvas site is published, copy the link from the Syllabus page. To confirm that the link works for reviewers, open it in an Incognito or InPrivate window and verify that it loads without asking for authentication.
Syllabus Format Options
You have two options for your syllabus:
- Canvas syllabus template (preferred) – Use the Create Canvas Syllabus tool to create your syllabus. For guidance and support, refer to the Syllabus Knowledge Base. The tool helps ensure the syllabus is accessible.
- Linked PDF within the Canvas syllabus space – Linked PDF within the Canvas syllabus space. If you choose this option, you must ensure your PDF:
- Meets legal accessibility requirements, including WCAG 2.1 Level AA, and complies with WSU policy and the U.S. Department of Justice Digital Accessibility Rules
- Is accessible and follows WSU’s accessible PDF guidelines
- Has all of the required syllabus elements
For New Courses:
Create your syllabus using one of the two format options above.
For Revisions to Existing Courses:
You must create a new public Canvas shell specifically for senate review using one of the two format options above. Do not make your existing credit-bearing Canvas course public.
Submitting Your Course Proposal
Once your syllabus is created and published, add the URL to the appropriate form below to route your proposal to senate for the course review process:
