I noticed that the most recent Provost’s memo on Annual Reviews (https://provost.wsu.edu/documents/2017/08/instructions-faculty-and-administrative-professional-annual-reviews.pdf/) contained the following language:
“If the reviewed faculty member teaches at least one Global Campus course, the report must be reviewed by the WSU Global VCAA.”
Is this a new process? I query what authority the Global Campus has to weigh in on a faculty member’s annual reviews just because that faculty member happens to teach an online course.
Response
Thank you for bringing this issue to the attention of the faculty senate. We agree that having Global Campus sign off on the entire annual review document is unnecessary. We brought this to the attention of the provost’s office, and they agree that was not their intention. Doug Call, the Senior Vice Provost, has sent a message to all deans, chairs, and directors explaining their intention was only that Global Campus be consulted regarding teaching performance when a faculty member’s teaching includes one or more Global Campus courses.
