On behalf of the Faculty Senate, welcome to the 2025-26 academic year at WSU! If you are a new faculty member, welcome to WSU! We are so glad you have joined us. For the returning faculty, welcome to a new year! We hope you had an opportunity to recoup and refresh over the summer.
The Faculty Senate is the system-wide legislative body of the faculty. The senate approves curricular initiatives and educational policy, and we review new and modified university policies. We provide feedback and recommendations to university leadership on a range of issues. And, very importantly, we raise faculty concerns and advocate for faculty interests.
This coming year promises to be one filled with new initiatives and updates to existing policies. WSU welcomed a new President, Dr. Elizabeth Cantwell, in April of 2025. The Faculty Senate will provide faculty perspective as we engage with President Cantwell as she and her leadership team introduce her vision for WSU. We look forward to working in partnership to continue to strengthen and support the faculty, and WSU’s academic and land grant mission.
The Faculty Senate meets every other Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00. Our meetings are broadcast on YouTube so that all faculty members across our state-wide system have the opportunity to attend. We hope that you join our meetings whenever you can to stay abreast of what is happening in faculty governance. The Faculty Senate also staffs many committees that provide numerous opportunities for service. Watch for email updates on these and other opportunities. For those of you already serving,Thank You for your service!
The Chair of the Faculty Senate will share their thoughts through the Chair blog. Faculty members can bring issues to our attention by communicating with the Faculty Senators representing your college and/or campus, or by contacting the Faculty Senate office or members of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. Also, you can post issues or concerns on the Faculty Forum page of the Faculty Senate website.
