I would like to again take this opportunity to thank those who do work on behalf of the Senate. You may find information about our committees on our Senate Committee Overview page. Committees are also a way to bring issues to the attention of the Senate Executive and Steering Committee, and committees through their chairs provide recommendations on a variety of concerns which are important to faculty such as libraries, academics, faculty due process, and student admissions and enrollment. As we build two new committees (International Affairs and Faculty Compensation) it will also be important to evaluate the charge of our current committees to see how we can improve our shared governance connections. The Faculty Senate has added recent representation on two important university level committees: The Board of Regents Budget Committee (Klein) and The Board of Regents Medical School Finance Committee (Roberts) in addition to Judi McDonald’s current Faculty Regent position. If you are unfamiliar with the Board of Regents and their process please review the Board of Regents meeting dates page and periodically check into their livestream. As with the Faculty Senate meetings, Board of Regents meetings may be found archived on the WSU Board of Regents YouTube page.
We have adopted a consent agenda format for our committee reports. If you are the chair of a Senate Committee you will receive a reminder email but may also submit your report at any time using the Faculty Senate Committee Reporting form found on Faculty Senate Forms page. The Senate also adopted a form which can be used between meetings to submit motions for Senate consideration, which will be initially directed to the Steering Committee. The Petitions and Motions form can also be found on the Faculty Senate Forms page.
On October 31 Executive VP for Finance and Administration Leslie Brunelli provided an overview of the Comprehensive Budget Overview Fiscal Year 2025.
On November 14-15 Chair Elect Roberts and I will meet with the Everett Campus faculty and administrators and will conduct our Senate meeting from that location. We will welcome speakers from The Center for Community Standards who will answer questions from the faculty regarding academic integrity and community standard student violations process.
