SUMMARY:Building Resilience to Manage Stress
DESCRIPTION:This presentation looks at the part resiliency plays in helping us get through\, and cope with\, difficult and uncertain times.  Resiliency is not a strategy to help you reduce stress but rather it is designed to help you become stronger as a result of experiencing stress. Darrow has over 25 years of professional experience in information technology\, social work\, mental health and employee and student assistance programs. Prior to joining the State in June 2020\, he was the Program Manager for Safe at Hopkins – a bullying and workplace violence prevention program at Johns Hopkins University and Hospital/Health Systems.  Darrow\, his spouse (a Seattle native)\, their 2 kids and 2 dogs moved to the Pacific Northwest from Baltimore\, Maryland in summer 2018.  Darrow and his family currently reside in University Place\, WA.

DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Pedagogy Skillport Registration\nThe latest addition to the Community and Equity Certificate Program includes the new online Workshop: Inclusive Pedagogy \nDescription: \nThis online training is geared toward faculty members\, staff and instructors who intend to embody inclusive values in their classrooms and beyond.  The exploration of inclusive pedagogy will focus on: asset vs. deficit based mindset\, transparency in course design and delivery\, the mitigation of stereotype threat\, and modeling/encouraging growth mindset.  The principles to be discussed are adaptable to any discipline and can be utilized for undergraduate\, graduate\, and professional courses. \nWorkshop Learning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will be able to articulate and apply the principles of an asset-based mindset.\nParticipants will explore strategies for reducing stereotype threat in classrooms/meeting spaces.\nParticipants will identify strategies for increasing course transparency.\nParticipants will identify strategies for modeling and encouraging growth mindset.\n\nInclusive Pedagogy SkillPort Registration\n(click the link above to navigate to the HRS registration)
